Doc-summary/Abstract:
Observational constraints on models of the origin of large-scale cosmic structures are discussed. Data are reviewed which constrain the power spectrum of primordial density fluctuations over a very large range of scales, independently of the particular cosmogonical theory assumed. It is argued that the following data impose the strongest constraints on cosmogonic theories: redshifts, masses, and comoving densities of the most distant quasars and galaxies; galaxy and cluster correlation functions; peculiar velocities on scales larger than 10/h Mpc; and microwave background anisotropies.
